Oncolytic viruses as a strategy for the treatment of diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma

Thanks to the support of Conservas Pedro Luis, Dr Marta Alonso and her team at the Navarra University Clinic are studying the use of viruses capable of destroying cancer cells for the treatment of paediatric brain tumours. Specifically, they will analyse their use for the treatment of gliomas, the most aggressive paediatric tumours in desperate need of effective treatment.  In a phase I clinical trial, researchers have already confirmed the safety of using viruses and the results suggest that they are effective as an anti-tumour treatment.   The group is developing new and improved viruses, moving forward the development of the strategy and this project will allow a new therapy for children with glioma to be transferred to the clinic.
